Woodbrook hope to avenge Myrtle Beach final defeat.(Sport) - The Mail on Sunday (London, England)

TWO REMARKABLE chips at successive holes completed Woodbrook's thrilling victory over Seapoint to make them one of the first teams through to the quarterfinals of the Irish Mail All-Ireland Trophy.

After a tight and tense match, Linda Cole-McKenna chipped in for a birdie at the 15th and a par at the 16th to open up a two-hole lead which was enough to secure the 2&1 victory.

It means Cole-McKenna and partner Sarah Cleary are now only one match away from September finals at Carton House.

Cleary said: 'We made it through a few rounds a couple of years ago but have never got so far.

We'd love to get to the finals, but we know what a tough match the next round is going to be.' Woodbrook feel they have some unfinished business in this competition. The Irish Mail Trophy is the successor to The Mail on Sunday Classic, which Woodbrook lost in the finals in 2002 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Linda Cole-McKenna said: 'I was captain of that Woodbrook team which lost in the seventh round in 2007, so we have some history there. Maybe it is time for our luck to change.' For more news and results go to www.irishgolf.ie
